Newcastle Heroes of World War 1 is a St Nicholas Cathedral project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund to bring the stories of local men who served and the impact of war on the lives of their families on the home front during the First World War to a new generation.

The story of our local lads that went through the crucible of war is a one of courage and comradeship worthy of being made relevant and accessible to all, regardless of religion or race, for men of many religions be they Catholic, Protestant or Non Conformist fought side by side as did those from other nations be they, black, Indian or mixed race - they could all be found in The Northumberland Fusiliers.

Our project historian and outreach team are working with local school children to bring the story of our Newcastle Heroes to life with a special emphasis on not only remembering the fallen but also to encourage thoughts and understanding of the impact going to war had on their families.
